After my honeymooon and self imposed break from the skating world, I went to my first indoor practice of the year! We had about 24-26 people in the group which isnt bad considering with the dwindling interest in speed skating as a whole and we didnt do much recruiting.
Hopefully we can get our Thursday night Speed Session up and going and get some kids and parents into the rink during that time and get our numbers up!
It was good seeing faces I havent seen in a while... some people have grown others havent, some have really gotten better with their form while some are still struggling. Hmmmm things to do!
Ok well thats it for me today... im going to try and post WAY more regularly to keep track of my moods during practice!! ;-)
So....I forgot how to post a blog!!!
I'm just sitting at home thinking about random stuff and I agree with most people on our team that we NEED MORE skaters!! I've been working at the rink for almost four years now and I have no idea how many people I have approached about the sport of inline speed skating and our team. I would say that out of about twenty people maybe only one will stop by and check out our team...then maybe they end up joining maybe they won't. I know we need to change something to see change. I don't know how many people have seen those post cards that advertise the Bay Area Boomers floating around the rink, but they're pretty cool. I was thinking we could make post cards like that with a picture of the team on the front and information about the begineer class along with our regular practice times (so people interested in the sport could come check it out) on the back. I also feel that flyers should be located right next to our window in the rink because believe it or not session skaters and parents look at the window and I think it would be very beneficial to have flyers right there with all the info. I say this also because there are so many of our flyers mixed in with all the other flyers and they just get lost in translation...haha Anyway.....ideas ideas ideas...
